Binger Directors Lab – Week 1

I’m not planning to do an update every week while at the Binger this spring. But I did feel that we covered so much ground this week that I should try to compile my thoughts and experiences so far.

What I love most about the Binger is the interdependance you develop with everyone else’s project and I think a close second would be the actual filmmakers you get to meet. There’s ten directors and many of us are at about the same stage in our careers. Despite our diverse backgrounds and stories though, we have many of the same concerns and sensitivities.

This week Gyula Gazdag guided a set of personal presentations on our projects and ourselves. It’s been a bit of a time warp because after only five days I feel that I know so much more about each filmmaker, their story and why it’s so personal to them. And of course, it reminded me of my own relationship to my project and how my biography up until now has led me to this point as a storyteller.

Next week we get to meet the acting coach and author Judith Weston for a sort of acting bootcamp that I’m petrified and excited about. Keep you updated -
