Day 43 of 50 Poems/50 Days

This Moment

The naked boy jumps
into the pond,
arms above his heads,
into the cold.

His girl watches on,
humming her song,
smiling,
watching her man.

He pops his head back up,
above the water –
inhale . . . exhale and down again,
he touches the bottom.

At the bottom,
he finds something he lost –
a photograph,
the face faded gone.

Pops back up again to see
his darling skipping away,
still humming her song,
her face turned away.
