She holds me down,
pulls the words out of my mouth,
abracadabra like rabbit ears for the lover’s heart,
“I wish I did”, I said, “but I don’t”.
She gnaws at the body,
to let loose the nerves,
bones held by threads,
sewn together to make a man.
Scraps of things I’ve read,
passed through my thoughts,
clever words for special moments,
like when you lose the air in your lungs,
when you let go of her tiny fingers
only to learn they are what held you up.
